Five leaders and activists of Awami League and allied organizations following Basurhat Pouswa Mayor Abdul Quader Mirza of Noakhali's Kompaniganj Upazila have been arrested.
Companiganj police arrested them at different times on Friday. Among those arrested are Musapur Union Volunteer League President Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury, Awami League General Secretary of Ward 4 of Basurhat Municipality Md. Liton, Charelahi Juba League President Abdul Malek, Juba League leader Ekramul Haque and Basurhat Municipality Market style owner Mohiuddin Lipu. Kompaniganj Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zahidul Haque Rony confirmed the matter.
It was not immediately clear in which case they were arrested.
