Section 144 has been issued in Basurhat municipal area of Noakhali's Kompaniganj upazila.
Companiganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ziaul Haque Mir confirmed on Sunday night that Section 144 will continue for 12 hours from 6am to 6pm on Monday. The UNO said, Basurhat announced the rally at Rupali Chattar.
At the same time, Mizanur Rahman Badal, the organizing secretary of the Upazila Awami League, also announced a protest rally against Quader Mirza. Section 144 has been issued from morning till evening to avoid clashes. Officer-in-charge (OC) of Kompaniganj Police Station Mir Jahedul Haque said section 144 has been issued to prevent deterioration of law and order situation.
RAB-Police and DB are constantly patrolling the area. Earlier, in 2013, Companiganj became a battlefield in the clash between Chhatra Shibir and police. Eight people lost their lives at that time. After almost eight years, this parliamentary constituency of Awami League General Secretary and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has become unsettled again.
From December 31, Obaidul Quader's younger brother Basurhat Municipal Mayor Quader Mirza's 'Satya Bachane' began to cause discomfort. Gradually it turned into violence. The heat is also spreading in the neighboring district of Feni. Mizanur Rahman Badal, the organizing secretary of Upazila Awami League, took to the field on Friday despite a single meeting of Quader Mirza in Companiganj.
Then there was a shootout between the two followers. 60 people were injured. At least seven of them were shot. Journalist Burhan Uddin was shot dead while undergoing treatment.
