The Indian Meteorological Department has said that a 200-kilometer cyclone 'Taut' could hit the Gujarat coast of India. The cyclone could hit the coast of Gujarat between 8pm and 11pm on Monday, they said.
The meteorological office said the storm could reach speeds of up to 200 kilometers per hour. The amount of rain will also increase. In this situation, the Mumbai airport has been temporarily closed. The airport authorities said the decision was due to increased rainfall. The administration said 25,000 residents of Porbandar and Bhavnagar districts on the Gujarat coast had been evacuated.
So far, 1.5 million people have been evacuated from the cyclone-hit area. The administration feared heavy damage in Porbandar, Amreli, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Bhavnagar coast and Ahmedabad coastal areas. It started raining in Mumbai on Monday morning. In the meantime, a flight from Chennai to Mumbai has been diverted to Surat.
In Mumbai, five temporary centers have been set up in each ward of the Pur area. Mumbai is currently experiencing winds of 75-85 kmph, with the onset of rains. A total of 7,000 fishing boats from Gujarat and Maharashtra have returned to shore, the administration said.
