Tamim Iqbal has been named in the openers' elite club for the first ODI of the series against Sri Lanka.
Bangladesh ODI captain became the ninth opener in the history of cricket to score 14,000 runs on Saturday. He is also the first Bangladeshi to score 14,000 runs in three editions of international cricket. Tamim scored 13,998 runs against Sri Lanka on Saturday.
In the first over of the match, he reached the target by hitting Isuru Udana four times. After Saturday's 52-run innings, Tamim scored 7504 runs in ODIs, 4788 runs in Tests and 1758 runs in T20s.
Tamim now has a total of 14050 runs in three editions. Sri Lanka's Sanath Jayasuriya has scored the highest 19298 runs as an opener in international cricket.
Chris Gayle in second place with 18834 runs. Graeme Smith (16950 runs), Desmond Haynes (16120 runs), Virender Sehwag (16119 runs), Sachin Tendulkar (15335 runs), Alastair Cook (15110 runs), Matthew Hayden (14825 runs) and David Warner (14803 runs) are the owners.
Except for Tamim and Warner, the rest of the list has retired. So these two have a good chance to improve their position in front of them.
