Mamunul Haque, the central joint secretary general of the defunct Hefazat-e-Islam committee, has been sent to jail after a five-day remand in the third phase. On Monday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nivana Khair Jesse ordered him sent to jail. On May 4, Mamunul was granted a five-day remand in two separate cases of violence over the recent campaign against the arrival of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
At the end of that remand, he was produced in court and asked to be kept in jail till the investigation report is submitted.
At the end of the hearing, the judge ordered him sent to jail. Mamunul was arrested on April 18 at noon from Jamia Rahmania Madrasa in the capital's Mohammadpur in a case of assault and sabotage filed with the Mohammadpur police station in 2020.
