Chittagong district administration has completed all kinds of preparations to deal with cyclone 'Yas'. For this purpose 511 shelters have been prepared in Chittagong district and upazila.
An observation team and the required number of medical teams have been formed at the initiative of the district administration. Adequate amount of dry food has also been stockpiled.
The apparent light pressure in the East-Central Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas has condensed and turned into low pressure in the same area. As a result, the meteorological office has asked Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra seaports to display the number one remote warning signal.
Cyclone 'Yas' could hit Bangladesh on the 25th or 26th. Umar Farooq, executive magistrate of Chittagong district administration and staff officer of the deputy commissioner, said all preparations have been made by the district administration to deal with the cyclone.
511 shelters have been prepared in districts and upazilas. Due to the closure of schools and colleges due to corona, electricity connections and other physical infrastructures are being prepared by cleaning the unclean and dilapidated shelters for a long time.
Five ADCs have already visited the shelters in the coastal upazilas. One lakh rupees has been allocated in each upazila for the purchase of cow feed.
Every upazila administration has been instructed in this regard. Executive Magistrate Umar Farooq further said that awareness miking is being carried out in the coastal areas at the initiative of the administration.
All the coastal upazilas including UNO, Aceland, OC and their respective responsible officers in their respective areas have been instructed to be at work.
If the light pressure turns into a cyclone after low pressure, it will be called Yas. It is a Persian word, whose English is Jasmine. In Bengali it is called jasmine flower. Oman gave the name.
