The court has granted five-day remand in two separate cases against Maulana Mamunul Haque, the joint secretary general of the disbanded Hefazat-e-Islam committee.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Sikder's court passed the order on Tuesday. The investigating officer of the case produced Mamunul in court after a seven-day remand. Later, in two separate cases filed with the Paltan Police Station in connection with the clash at Baitul Mukarram, the investigating officer applied for a 17-day remand of Mamunul.
Following the application, the court granted him a five-day remand in two cases. Earlier, on April 26, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury granted him a seven-day remand. .
Chargesheets have been filed in the court after investigating four of the cases. Out of the remaining 49 cases, 32 cases are still under investigation by the police.
Besides, the remaining 17 cases have been handed over to the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police for investigation. Apart from the Hefazat violence case on May 5, 2013, there are 12 cases of violence in the capital's Paltan and Motijheel police stations in connection with the recent anti-Modi movement.
Mamunul Haque has been named in five cases of Motijheel and Paltan police stations. He was arrested on April 18 from Jamia Rahmania Arabia Madrasa in Mohammadpur by Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police-DB.
