A female beggar was killed in a fight and stabbing of two beggars in Pabna while fetching zakat clothes. The deceased was identified as Alladi Khatun, 45. The incident took place at Dilalpur in the city on Saturday morning. An eyewitness, Asma Khatun, said some beggars gathered in front of a house in the water tank area near Barabazar in Dilalpur mahalla to collect begging and zakat clothes.
At this time another female beggar started arguing with the beggar Alladi. At one stage, the two started quarreling. Later, a middle-aged male beggar in lungi and Punjabi came and stabbed Alladi at random with a sharp knife.
The male beggar fled when other beggars chased him. Pabna Additional Superintendent of Police Masud Alam said that Alladi had a conversation with the female beggar on the night of Shabe Barat. It is believed that there has been a dispute between the two since then.
The killings are thought to have been sparked by the dispute. The killer's house is in Sujanagar upazila. After receiving news from the locals, the spot was inspected.
Alladi lived in a rented house on the island adjacent to Ananta Bazar in the city. He added that the killer was being identified after seeing CCTV footage of a house at the spot. Officer-in-charge (OC) of Pabna Sadar Police Station Nasim Ahmed said the body was recovered and sent to Pabna General Hospital morgue for autopsy. A case is under process at the police station.
