Various animals, including street dogs and cats, are suffering from severe food shortages due to the lockdown announced by the government to prevent corona infection.
Recently, the government of Orissa in India has allocated Tk 6 million for stray dogs and cats. In metropolitan cities like Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Sambalpur, Rourkela and Brahmapur, Tk 20,000 per day will be spent on feeding stray dogs. In addition, Tk 5,000 has been allocated daily in other areas.
2,000 per day will be spent for certain 61 areas. The initiative has been taken in 5 metropolitan corporations, 48 municipalities and 61 more areas of Orissa. The Orissa Public Information Department said, “Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has allocated Tk 60 lakh for feeding these animals.
With this money, arrangements will be made to feed street animals in different cities of Orissa. This will be done through local volunteers and voluntary organizations in different areas.
