Weekly free haat activities are underway in Ishwarganj upazila of Mymensingh for the unaffordable farming families due to corona epidemic, Ramadan and recent hostile weather. The Mukti Bandhan Foundation, a voluntary organization, conducted the program at Atharbari in Ishwarganj upazila of the district on Wednesday (April 28) in compliance with the health rules.
The stalls, arranged at a distance of three feet each, contained fresh vegetables, pumpkins, tomatoes, green chillies, live fish, onions, potatoes and dates for Iftar, collected directly from farmers. Even in today's market, there was always a necessary market for them.
The Atharo Bari Union Free Hat program is being conducted in Ishwarganj Upazila due to the recent Kalbaishakhi storm, hailstorm and hot winds which caused severe damage to Boro paddy in the area. AKM Azharul Islam Palash, coordinator of the program, said, "We have made arrangements for phone call services for the unemployed middle class families who are constrained due to public embarrassment."
Iqbal Hossain, chairman of Mukti Bandhan Foundation, said that during the holy month of Ramadan and the epidemic, the market will be open for the unaffordable people during the holy month of Ramadan.
Besides, there are plans to provide new clothes for thousands of families on the occasion of Eid. Local dignitaries including Upazila Agriculture Officer Sadhan Kumar Guha were present at today's free market.
Ishwarganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Zakir Hossain inspected the program during the haat. Everyone's temperature is determined with hand sanitizer and infrared thermometer to disinfect the hand at the entrance of the hut. Volunteer shopkeepers at the market had gloves and masks.
