Hefazat-e-Islam joint secretary general Mamunul Haque has been remanded in custody for seven days. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Devdas Chandra Adhikari granted a seven-day remand on Monday after hearing a remand application filed by the police. Earlier on Sunday afternoon, police arrested Mamunul Haque from Jamia Rahmania Arabia Madrasa in Mohammadpur. Mamunul Haque was taken to Tejgaon police station after being arrested in a sabotage case at Mohammadpur police station last year.
From there he was taken to the DB police office on Minto Road. Police produced Mamunul Haque in the court under tight security around 11 am on Monday and remanded him for questioning.
On the other hand, Mamunul Haque's lawyer Syed Joynal Abedin Mezbah opposed the remand application and applied for bail. Following the hearing, the court rejected the bail application and granted a 7-day remand.
