Obaidul Quader, general secretary of the ruling Awami League, said the government was thinking of easing the lockdown before Eid.

He also said that the government is actively thinking of extending the lockdown across the country for a week on the advice of experts. Obaidul Quader said this at a regular briefing at his official residence on Monday morning.

The Minister for Road Transport and Bridges said the lockdown may be relaxed for homebound people during Eid. He called on all to be mentally prepared and patient. It was then decided to extend the duration of the ongoing "total lockdown" by one week to prevent coronavirus infection.

The decision was taken at a meeting of secretaries chaired by the cabinet secretary. Obaidul Quader also said that a decision has been taken to provide financial assistance to unemployed workers including transport workers. He called upon the leaders and workers of all walks of life to distribute relief among the people floating in the party.

At the same time, she said, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is turning Bangladesh into a food surplus country by taking and implementing landmark decisions for the welfare of agriculture and farmers. Obaidul Quader called upon all the leaders and workers of Krishak League to work on the side of Bangabandhu.
