The 14th edition of the Indian Premier League is set to begin on April 9. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday confirmed that the 52-day event will be held on April 9.

A statement signed by BCCI secretary Joy Shah confirmed the matter. Last season's IPL was held in the United Arab Emirates.

Although this year's event will be held in India, the matches will be limited to six venues. The matches will be played in Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai.

The opening match of the 60-match series will be played in Chennai against the defending champions Mumbai Indians Royal Challengers Bangalore. The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad has been named in the record books as the largest cricket stadium in the world.

The play-off match will be held at that stadium. Besides, the final will be held on May 30 at the stadium named after Modi from Sardar Patel. This time 11 double header matches will be played. That means two matches in one day will be 11 days.

The first match of the double header will start at 3.30 pm Indian time. The evening match will be at 7:30.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to hold the IPL at home after hosting a bio-bubble match in the UAE last season.
