Two people lost control and fell into the river in Gomantali Shawkatnagar area of Satkhira's Shyamnagar upazila.
They are Arafat Hossain (18) and Ibrahim Hossain (23). The accident happened on Thursday night. Their friends Imam Hossain, Saifullah and Hasan were injured.
Arafat's cousins Maruf Billah and Shariful Islam said that Arafat Hossain was going to Shyamnagar Sadar with his own private car.
The private car fell into the nearby Lime River when the driver lost control while reaching the Lime Bridge area around 8 pm.
At that time, the locals rushed down the river, broke the glass of the car and rescued the five people trapped inside. After taking them to the Shyamnagar Upazila Health Complex, the doctors declared the two dead.
Among the other three, Imam Hossain's condition is critical, said the doctor. Shyamnagar Upazila Health Complex Residential Medical Officer. Omar Farooq Chowdhury said, Arafat and Ibrahim were brought to the hospital dead. Shyamnagar Police Station OC Md. Nazmul Huda said two of those trapped in the river fell into a private car.
