On April 11, 371 Union Parishads (UPs) will go to the polls in the first phase and 11 municipalities in the sixth phase.
The BNP has already said it will boycott the polls. In the first phase, the polls will be held in Cox's Bazar, Noakhali, Chittagong, Chandpur, Khulna, Bagerhat, Sunamganj, Madaripur, Gazipur, Narsingdi, Bhola, Jhalokati, Pirojpur, Barguna, Barisal, Satkhira and Rangpur. Nomination papers for the posts of Chairman, General Member and Reserved Women Member of the Union Parishad can be submitted till March 18, according to the announced schedule.
The last date for selection of nomination papers is March 19 and the last date for withdrawal is March 24. In the first phase, EVM voting will be held in 30 Union Parishads.
The rest will be on the ballot paper. In the same schedule, 11 municipalities will vote in EVM. There are about four and a half thousand union councils in the country.
The last UP vote was held in six phases between March 22 and June 2016.
