BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called upon all to unite in realizing the dream of the liberation war of 1971 on the golden jubilee of independence. He said this freedom is not just for any individual or group. Freedom belongs to all those who reap the golden harvest in this country, those who enrich the economy through labor. Expatriate workers, mothers and sisters working in garments, farmers soaked in the sun and rain in the fields, students and youth are all professionals. He said, 'Let's take a new oath fifty years later - to realize that dream of 1971. Only then will it be possible to move forward on the path of building a liberal, democratic, prosperous Bangladesh.
He was speaking at the inaugural function of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Independence Day at Hotel Lakeshore in the capital. At the beginning of his speech, he paid homage to BNP Secretary General Z Force Commander and late President Ziaur Rahman, besides Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Haque, Hossain Shaheed Suhrawardy, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibani and others. The martyrs paid homage to the freedom fighters.
Mirza Fakhrul said, “While we are celebrating the Golden Jubilee, there is a conspiracy to cancel the title of Ziaur Rahman only because of political revenge. The unelected authoritarian government is hatching this conspiracy. During this time, he imprisoned BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, prosecuted leaders and activists including acting chairman Tareq Rahman, kidnapped and murdered and assaulted police at peaceful rallies, baton charges, throwing tear gas shells, shooting, arresting Ahmed, former MP in prison. Abdus Salam Pintu, vice chairman of the jailed party, Lutfuzzaman Babar, advisor to the chairperson, raised the issue of death of Mushtaq Ahmed, a writer in a digital security case.
Attempts are being made to establish a one-party system in the false twist of democracy. Elections are being held without voters. Parliament and government are being formed through vote robbery on the night before the election. The government has shattered all hopes of independence. Far from uniting the nation in these 50 years, it has been further divided. Freedom has been weakened rather than consolidated. The hopes and aspirations of the people have been shattered.
A society, a state is being formed where justice is elusive. Inequality is on the rise. Mirza Fakhrul said that future generations are being misled by giving false history. They want to make that fact clear in various programs of Subarna Jayanti. The economy is under the control of a few partisan businessmen, the media is stifled, the constitution is shattered, the education system is broken, the economy is broken by the Kavid infection, the health system is broken. At the beginning of the ceremony, recitation of the Qur'an and later the artists performed the national anthem.
Everyone stood up and paid homage to the national anthem and the memory of the heroic martyrs of 1971. Acting Chairman of the party Tareq Rahman inaugurated the event via Skype from London. In the second part of the program, a cultural program was organized under the direction of BNP Cultural Secretary Ashraf Uddin Ujjwal.
