Calling on scientists and researchers to work harder for human welfare, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said research and evolution of science is essential for the development of the country.

She participated in the main event organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital via video conference from Ganobhaban. The Prime Minister said,

Therefore, you will continue your research work with a special focus on the welfare of the people. Referring to the need for mechanization of our agro-based economy, Sheikh Hasina said, "Even though we have less space, we have been able to achieve food self-sufficiency through proper use of that space." Therefore, keeping that in mind, more emphasis should be given to research. We want Bangladesh to become the golden Bangladesh of the dream of the father of the nation. She said, "If skilled human resources are created, employment can be created in the country and abroad as well. We are aiming at that.

She said the research and development branch in every industry should be made efficient and strong. She said his government was already building 100 special economic zones across the country. The Prime Minister said that there is a dire need for research as industry will be established there. She said that through research we can reduce costs and increase production efficiency and increase exports through production of diversified products. I hope you will pay special attention to the creation of new products and our export will continue. The Prime Minister said his government has already launched Bangabandhu Satellite-1 in space, broadband connection is being provided all over Bangladesh and in this way his government will move forward using science. She said her government is implementing a comprehensive program for the overall development of the country including development, which will benefit the people of the country, the people of the country. Sheikh Hasina said, 'No one can stop the progress that Bangladesh is making.

And since the coronavirus has not been able to do it, no one else will be able to do it - that is my belief. So we think it's our responsibility now.

According to the relevant sources, MS, MPhil, PhD and PhD-North programs in science and technology research studies at home and abroad with the aim of creating highly skilled scientists, technologists and researchers. From the financial year 2010-11 to the current (2020-2021) financial year, Tk. 190.45 crore has been given to 596 people. Besides, under the National Science and Technology Fellowship at MPhil, PhD and PhD-North level from 2009-10 to the current financial year, Tk. Fellowships worth Tk 121.65 crore have been provided to 730 students and researchers. In addition to fellowships, special grants are being provided to scientists and researchers to encourage and support research and development work in science and technology.

152.93 crore research grants have been provided in favor of 4,382 projects from the last 2009-10 financial year to the current financial year. Senior Secretary of the Ministry Md. Anwar Hossain delivered the welcome address. On behalf of the Prime Minister, the Minister of Science and Technology handed over the checks of fellowships and grants to the scientists and researchers.
