Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader said the BNP withdrew from the union council elections knowing that the people would not vote.
BNP leaders are trying to overthrow the government. Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader made the remarks while addressing an extended meeting of the Dhaka Metropolitan North Awami League at the Krishibid Institution at Farmgate in the capital on Monday.
He claimed that the victory of Awami League in the fifth phase of municipal elections is a proof of the people's confidence in the leadership and development of Sheikh Hasina. The Awami League has won in 27 municipalities in the fifth phase of elections on Sunday. BNP has won only one.
The BNP has announced a boycott of the upcoming Union Parishad elections alleging vote rigging. Rejecting the allegations of fraud, Obaidul Quader said, various ongoing projects of the country are visible today. So people are in favor of Sheikh Hasina.
During the BNP rule, they could not show any development success. So there is a drought in their politics. Obaidul Quader said, there is no issue of movement in the country now. Sheikh Hasina's politics of development and achievement has thrown anti-government politics into an issue crisis.
The BNP is trying to grab what it is getting like a drowning man by not getting the right issue of the movement. The general secretary of Awami League said, everyone has options in the politics of Awami League. Only Sheikh Hasina has no alternative.
He has no alternative in the national politics of Bangladesh. Today, Bangladesh has risen from the list of least developed countries to the list of developing countries in the development journey under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina.
Meanwhile, Obaidul Quader directed to form committees of all units of Dhaka Metropolitan North and South through a conference within the next three months.
