Bangabandhu was a true friend of Russia. Bangabandhu was a brave warrior for achieving the independence of Bangladesh, who achieved it from his goal. The Russian people have always remembered him with respect. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei de Lavrov in a video message sent to celebrate the birth centenary of Bangabandhu and the golden jubilee of independence.
The video message was broadcast on the festival stage of the National Parade Ground on Friday afternoon. In the video message, he said that Bangabandhu visited Moscow in March 1972, two months after Russia recognized Bangladesh.
Relations between the two countries have been built since that time on the basis of mutual respect. He said Russia has always given political support to Bangladesh to stand on its own two feet. Referring to the liberation war of 1971 and its aftermath, he said that a team of Soviet navy was sent in 1972 to clear the port of Chittagong of mines.
Bangladesh remembers this support of Russia, which is commendable. He praised Bangladesh's progress in the last fifty years and said that Bangladesh has made a lot of progress in the last five decades. At present, the biggest challenge of the time is tackling the challenge of climate change and setting an example of success in the war against the poor.
At the same time, Bangladesh is working to establish peace through peacekeepers in different countries. Referring to Bangladesh as one of the largest economic partners of Russia in South Asia, he said the two countries currently have a trade volume of about ০ 2.4 billion.
Work is underway to set up the first nuclear power plant in Bangladesh in collaboration with Russia. Which is known as Rooppur nuclear power plant. He hopes that the project will be completed by 2024.
He also hoped that in the coming days, the relations of cooperation between Bangladesh and Russia in various fields would be further expanded.
