Hefazat-e-Islam's strike has led to six cases of clashes and violence in the three-kilometer area of the Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Siddhirganj in Narayanganj.
In each case, the names of 25 to 30 people have been mentioned and another 400 to 500 unidentified persons have been accused. The cases were registered at Siddhirganj police station on Monday night.
Five cases have been registered against the police. The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has become a plaintiff. Siddhirganj Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mashiur Rahman confirmed the matter to the media on Tuesday afternoon. Five cases have been registered against the police and one case against the RAB for arson and vandalism in the blockade and vehicles. .
No arrests have been made in these cases so far. OC Mashiur Rahman said efforts were being made to identify the people involved and arrest them. More than 50 people, including police and journalists, were injured in clashes between police and Hefazat-e-Islam activists during the strike on Sunday.
Two people were shot in the incident. 17 vehicles have been set on fire. Two media vehicles, an ambulance and more than a hundred vehicles were vandalized. The three-kilometer area from the signboard of the Dhaka-Chittagong highway to Shimrail became impassable and turned into a battlefield during the custody strike.
