The Election Commission (EC) is planning to hold Union Parishad (UP) elections across the country next May, CEC KM Nurul Huda said at a function organized by the Reporters Forum for Elections and Democracy (RFED) at the Election Building on Thursday afternoon. The CEC said that apart from the last phase, it has been proposed to hold elections for the remaining municipalities and some union councils on April 7.
The matter will be finalized at the commission meeting on February 17. The number of municipalities and UPs that can be voted on will be reviewed at this time. April 7 will be something.
However, UP elections will start in mid-May after Eid. There are about four and a half thousand union councils in the country. Five years ago, from March 22 to June 2016, more than 4,000 Union Parishads voted for the party symbol in six stages. This time too the party symbol will be voted.
