Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has beefed up security along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border following a military coup in Myanmar. BGB Director (Operations) Lieutenant Colonel Faizur Rahman said, "The BGB is on alert at the border around 12:30 pm on Monday." If anyone tries to infiltrate, action will be taken as per the order of the authorities. He added, ‘The issue of military coup in Myanmar is their own country.
It has nothing to do with the border at the moment. The BGB headquarters is closely monitoring the matter. Millions of Rohingyas migrated to Bangladesh due to the army's persecution of Rohingyas in Rakhine. Myanmar is in talks with Bangladesh to take back these Rohingyas. The border guards have been asked to be on high alert in case of a coup. Besides, the BGB is also working to prevent drug smuggling including yaba through the Myanmar border. Cox's Bazar 34 BGB commander Lieutenant Colonel Ali Haider Azad Ahde said, "The BGB is on alert at the Bangladesh-Myanmar border."
Surveillance has been stepped up to prevent anyone from entering. BGB members are on alert. There is nothing to panic about. The BGB is also working to curb drug smuggling across the border, including yaba. Mostafa Kamal, a leader of the Teknaf Leda Rohingya refugee camp, said: "The situation in Myanmar is tense after the military coup. We condemn this incident.
Moreover, if the situation in that country is turbulent, the issue of return of Rohingyas will become more difficult day by day. The two countries recently agreed to repatriate Rohingya. But that may be the case now.
