Myanmar's military government has announced the release of more than 23,000 prisoners. On Friday, a public holiday, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing announced the release of the detainees. The announcement comes as the United States has imposed new sanctions on several military officials and businesses in Myanmar for alleged involvement in the coup. In a statement, General Min Aung Hlaing said the move was aimed at bringing prisoners back to normal life as Myanmar establishes a new democratic state, including peace, development and order.
In order to create a humane and sympathetic situation, the sentences of the prisoners have been commuted. It has been announced that the sentences of 23 thousand 314 Myanmar and 55 foreign prisoners have been commuted. Top political leaders, including Aung San Suu Kyi, were detained.
A one-year state of emergency was also declared. The common people of the country have been protesting against the junta government since this incident. The country's security forces also opened fire on protesters to bring the protesters under control.
