South Korea has celebrated International Mother Language Day with due dignity. The Bangladesh Embassy in Seoul celebrated the day with three different ceremonies. Ambassador Abida Islam paid tribute to the memory of the language martyrs by laying a wreath at the Shaheed Minar in Ansan City, South Korea.
In the morning, he hoisted the national flag at the Bangladesh embassy premises. Later, a wreath was laid at the embassy premises on the sculpture of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Social distance activities are continuing in South Korea in the Corona situation.
For this reason, only embassy officials and employees were present on the occasion. The morning ferry and wreath-laying ceremony was canceled with the participation of expatriate Bangladeshis due to corona awareness.
The negotiators respectfully recalled the sacrifices of the language martyrs. They expressed their determination to work together to uphold the dignity and respect of the mother tongue. On the occasion of Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day, President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister Dr. Statements made by AK Abdul Momen, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam and Director General of UNESCO were read out.
Besides, silence was observed and lessons were recited from the scriptures showing respect to the souls of the language martyrs.
