A court has ordered the execution of a pregnant woman for strangling her to death in Bhurungamari, Kurigram.
The accused Russell Babu is the son of Saifur Rahman of Nakharganj area of Nageshwari upazila. However, the convict who was sentenced to death has been absconding since the case. The lawyer of the case said that the accused is absconding on bail.
The verdict was handed down by District and Sessions Judge Abdul Mannan on Tuesday afternoon. Advocate Abraham Lincoln was the government counsel in the case and advocates Fakhrul Islam and Siddiqur Rahman were the defendants in the case. Unable to bear the torture of her dowry-loving husband, his wife Pinki Khatun moved to her father's house in Dakshin Pathardubi village of the same upazila.
After that, husband Russell Babu came to his father-in-law's house to take his wife to his house. After 10 days of staying at her father-in-law's house, her husband Russell Babu started arguing with Pinky Khatun on the occasion of going to her mother-in-law's house.
At one stage, on May 27, 2011, after killing his wife by suffocation, the killer escaped. The court passed the verdict on Tuesday after a long hearing.
