The Sylhet Awami League has observed February 15 as 'Democracy Killing Day' through protest processions and rallies.
The Awami League carried out the program claiming that the BNP had killed democracy by unilaterally holding the Sixth Parliamentary Election on 15 February 1996. The Awami League took out a protest procession from the Sylhet Registry Ground to the district and the Shaheed Minar from the city on Monday afternoon.
After the procession, the metropolitan Awami League rallied at the district and court points at the Shaheed Minar. Speakers at the rally said the BNP had killed democracy in the country through the February 15 elections. And democracy has been restored through the struggle of Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the nation.
The BNP is still conspiring to disrupt democracy and development in the country.
Everyone should be vocal to thwart this conspiracy and take the country forward. In a separate rally, President of Mahanagar Awami League Muktijoddha Masuk Uddin Ahmed, Vice-President Asad Uddin Ahmed, Muktijoddha Abdul Khalik, Joint General Secretary ATM Hasan Jebul, Bidhan Kumar Saha, District Awami League spoke. General Secretary Nasir Uddin Khan, Senior Vice President Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury, Vice President Advocate Shah Farid Ahmed, Organizing Secretary Advocate Ranjit Sarkar and others.
