Clashes broke out between activists and supporters of Awami League and BNP candidates in Charghat, Rajshahi on Saturday morning over the posting of posters in the municipal election campaign.
At least 10 people were injured in the incident. Police and eyewitnesses said that Awami League activists came to the Charghat Pilot High School gate around 8:30 am on Saturday to put up posters of party candidate and current mayor Zakirul Islam Bikul's paddy sheaf symbol ahead of the February 28 Charghat municipal elections. Obstructed and beat and injured two people including Chhatra Dal activist Rubel Hossain.
Later, district BNP convener Abu Saeed Chand and current mayor Zakirul Islam Bikul went to the Charghat intersection with their supporters. Awami League party candidate Ekramul Haque was already present there. When the BNP leaders and activists reached in front of the Raj Clinic, brickbats started being thrown between the two sides.
About eight cocktails exploded during this time. When the BCL president fell to the ground due to the impact of the cocktail, the people of the opposition hacked him and injured him. Besides, BCL leader Iqbal Hossain Mukta, Awami League activist Azim Uddin and Sramik League leader Biplob were injured in brickbats and fights. Injured Chhatra League leader Tushar has been admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
At least 5 BNP leaders and activists were injured. Charghat Upazila Awami League general secretary Fakrul Islam said BNP supporters put posters of paddy sheaf on top of the poster of Awami League candidate Ekramul Haque. When forbidden, they behave violently. Later, led by BNP leader Abu Saeed Chand and mayoral candidate Zakirul Islam Bikul, they attacked with local weapons.
At this time they exploded cocktails. Eight Awami League leaders and activists were injured. A case will be filed in this incident. Meanwhile, tension has been going on in Charghat market since this incident. BNP activists are staying at the house of mayoral candidate Zakirul Islam Bikul.

Later, when the BNP leaders and activists exploded cocktails and created panic, there were chases and clashes between the two sides. Several people on both sides were injured.
