The Election Commission (EC) has spent Tk 10 crore in the recent Chittagong City Corporation (CHC) elections.
Half of this has been spent on election management. The other half has been spent on maintaining law and order. Deputy Secretary of the Budget Branch of the EC. Enamul Haque said 5 crore 16 lakh 37 thousand taka has been spent on election management.
This sector has to spend on center and vote management, allowances for polling officers etc. Besides, Tk 1.49 crore has been spent on police recruitment to maintain law and order, Tk 33.66 lakh has been spent on Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Tk 2.61 lakh has been spent on Ansar.
In all, the company has already paid 9 crore 60 lakh 41 thousand 380 rupees. The rest is the cost of recruiting Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members. The BGB did not issue a demand letter here. If they send the demand letter, the total cost will be around 10 crore taka. In the last election of 2015, 20 crore taka was spent in this city. Earlier, Rs 7 crore was spent in the 2010 elections.
This time the cost has been reduced as voting has been done through electronic voting machine (EVM) instead of ballot paper. Note that the election of Chasik was held on January 27. Awami League candidate has won the post of mayor. Rezaul Karim Chowdhury.
