In Bogra, district BNP convener MP Golam Mohammad Siraj was chased by BCL leaders and activists outside the city's central Shaheed Minar on Sunday morning.
After the chase, MP Ghulam Mohammad Siraj took refuge with the party leaders and activists at the nearby Sadar police outpost.
At that time, 3 leaders and activists of BNP's ally Krishak Dal and Juba Dal were beaten. Later, when the BCL leaders and activists returned due to police intervention, the BNP leaders and activists, including MP Golam Mohammad Siraj, who had taken shelter in the outpost, returned to the party office.
However, no party has lodged a GD or complaint at the police station. Witnesses and police said that the leaders and activists led by district BNP convener MP Golam Mohammad Siraj paid homage to the language martyrs at the central Shaheed Minar at Shaheed Khokon Park in the city.
Most of the leaders and activists then went to the party office on Nawabbari Road through the gate on the west side of the Shaheed Minar. However, MP Golam Mohammad Siraj and 7/8 senior leaders of the district BNP were returning to the party office through Circuit House Road in front of Shaheed Minar.
At that time, a group of BCL leaders and activists chased MP Ghulam Mohammad with the slogan 'Razakar'. Fearing an attack, they rushed to the nearby Sadar police outpost with the help of police.
Samsul Haque, vice-president of the Bogra district committee of the nationalist workers' party, and Masud and Sohag, activists of the Juba Dal, were beaten up. When the BNP leaders took up position inside the police outpost, the BCL leaders and activists started chanting slogans against MP Siraj.
At this time the police tried to stop them. After chanting slogans like this for a few minutes, the BCL leaders and activists left the area after some time at the request of the police.
The police then assisted the BNP leaders who had taken refuge in the outpost to return to the party office safely.
By then, more than a hundred BNP leaders and activists joined them and started chanting slogans against Chhatra League.
