Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has called upon Norway to invest in the economic zones of Bangladesh, especially in the ICT and jute sectors, to facilitate access to South and Southeast Asia. "Bangladesh is in a very important position due to its geographical location," she said. By investing in Bangladesh, it will be possible to enter the markets of South Asia and South East Asia.
Sheikh Hasina made the call during a courtesy call on Norwegian Ambassador Aspen Richter-Sevenden at the Prime Minister's official residence Ganobhaban. After the call, Assistant Press Secretary to the Prime Minister MM Imrul Kayes briefed reporters. He also called for investment in the eco-friendly jute sector. She said the government was providing all possible assistance to the ship recycling industry and Norway was assisting Bangladesh in this regard.
She also told the Norwegian Ambassador that Bangladesh has already started a nationwide vaccination program against COVID-19. The Prime Minister thanked Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman during the liberation war in 1971 and Norway for his help in rebuilding the country after the war. "Sweden is one of the first countries to recognize Bangladesh as an independent country after the war of liberation. Norway has been helping Bangladesh since its emergence as an independent nation," she said, adding that Norway is one of Bangladesh's largest development partners.
