Awami League nominated boat candidate Bipul Chandra Hawlader has been elected mayor privately in Kalapara municipality election.
He received 3359 votes. His closest rival is the rebel candidate Didar Uddin Ahmed Masum.
He got 3235 votes. Besides, BNP candidate Haji Humayun Sikder got 1601 votes with the symbol of paddy sheaf and Selim Mia from Islami Andolan Bangladesh got 669 votes with hand fan.
Assistant Returning Officer Abdur Rashid confirmed the results. In the Kalapara municipal election held on Sunday, four candidates contested for the post of mayor against 12,891 voters.
37 candidates contested for 9 councilor posts and 10 candidates contested for 3 reserved women councilor posts.
