A UN convoy has been attacked on the outskirts of the Afghan capital, Kabul.
The convoy killed five Afghan security personnel. The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a police convoy in the Tang-e-Habreshim area of Surobi district, about 60 kilometers (25 miles) east of Kabul, local time.
When one driver was killed, the car lost control and fell into the river. The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said in a statement on Twitter that the UN family in Afghanistan was deeply saddened by the death of five members of the Afghan security forces in today's incident.
The UNAMA also confirmed that no UN official was killed in the attack. An Afghan Interior Ministry official claimed that the Taliban were involved in the attack.
However, the militant group has denied the allegations. Attacks on foreign troops and officials in Afghanistan have been rare since the Taliban's agreement with the United States to withdraw US troops almost a year ago.
But over the past few weeks, there has been a resurgence of attacks and violence.
