At least 37 people were killed when a passenger bus lost control and fell into a canal in Madhya Pradesh, India. The accident took place in Sidhi district of the state around 7:30 am local time on Tuesday.
At that time there were about 50 passengers in the bus. District Superintendent of Police Dharmavir Singh said the dead included 20 men, a child and 16 women.
So far many are missing. Rescue efforts are underway to find him. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has described the accident as "horrific".
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the families of each of the victims.
