Thursday marks the 12th anniversary of the brutal massacre at the then BDR headquarters in Peelkhana.
A total of 74 people, including 57 army officers, were killed in the killings on this day in 2009. On the occasion of the day, Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) has organized Quran Khani, Doa and Milad Mahfil.
On behalf of the President and the Prime Minister, their military secretaries laid wreaths at the graves of the slain army personnel at the military cemetery in Banani on Thursday morning. On behalf of Abdul Hamid, his Military Secretary Major General SM Salahuddin Islam and on behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina his Military Secretary Major General Naqib Ahmed paid tributes.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Chief of Army Staff General Aziz Ahmed, Acting Chief of Naval Staff Rear Admiral M Abu Ashraf, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat, BGB Director General Major General Md. Safinul Islam paid homage at Banani.
A minute's silence was observed at the end of the wreath-laying ceremony.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan will be the chief guest at the BGB Central Mosque. Among others, the senior secretary of the public security department under the home ministry, the BGB director general, relatives of the martyrs, all officials working at the Peelkhana will attend prayers and milad. Hundreds of members of the force revolted. They killed 74 people, including 57 army officers, at the Peelkhana headquarters.
