Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed does not want the news to be headlined in Bahini newspaper with the news about the brutality in the police.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the annual general meeting of the Bangladesh Crime Reporters Association (CRAB) on Friday.
The IGP said work was being done on police corruption. In the beginning I was working on motivational activities and discipline. And the second is that we do not want 'brutality' in the police.
We don't want newspapers to report on police brutality," he said. We don’t want to be in the news. Where there is legal power then why use muscle power?
Benazir Ahmed said that if anyone in the police force does bad deeds, he is shown extreme cruelty in disciplining for other work. Again, if justice and fairness help is needed, then we try our best.
We are working hard against drugs," he said. If there is a drug addict in the police, he is being expelled from the force.
Addressing the journalists, the IGP said, "Journalists will present the news objectively. Do not judge before trial." Many times we see that the trial ends before the trial.
