A 17-year-old boy named Sohail Rana has committed suicide by insulting his parents for not being able to agree to get married.
The incident took place at Dakshin Basudebpur village of Amarpur union in Chirirbandar upazila of Dinajpur on Wednesday night. The deceased was identified as Dabirul Islam, a tile mechanic and a resident of the area.
Helal Sarkar, chairman of Amarpur Union No. 6 in Chirirbandar Upazila, confirmed the matter, saying, ‘Sohail Rana has been promising to marry his family for several months. The family members refused to marry her as she was young. Later on Wednesday night, the family members started looking for him as he did not return home after work. At one stage, the family members saw Sohail's body hanging from a tree branch near his house. Later in the night, Chirirbandar police station was informed and the police came and recovered the body.
Referring to the family, Chirirbandar Police Station SI Emdad Hossain said, "Sohail committed suicide by hanging himself on a branch of a blackberry tree near his house late on Wednesday night." The body was handed over to the family as there were no complaints.
Officer-in-charge of Chirirbandar Police Station Subrata Kumar Sarkar said, "It seems that he committed suicide out of pride towards his parents." A UD case has been filed at the police station on the night of the incident.
