Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Nur Tapas has been arrested on charges of cheating by opening a fake Facebook ID.
A team of Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Detective Cyber and Special Crime Division conducted a raid and arrested them from Rangpur and Gazipur on Monday night.
They are- Md. Zakaria and Md. Ekramul Haque. A smart phone and SIM were seized from them at that time.
It is learned that on January 1, a case was filed under the Digital Security Act at Shahbagh Police Station on the charge of cheating by opening a fake Facebook ID in the name of Mayor Tapas. The Detective Cyber and Special Crime Division started investigating the case. The accused were later identified and arrested.
At the time of the arrest, a fake Facebook ID ‘Shekh Fazle Noor Taposh’ in the name of Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh was found logged in Zakaria’s Facebook apps.
Initial interrogation, the detainees said, among the arrested. Zakaria demanded money from Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapas by opening a fake Facebook ID and pretending to be the mayor. To collect the money. Using development number registered in the name of Ekramul Haque.
Meanwhile, in another operation, Saiful Islam was arrested on Monday on charges of hacking Facebook from Ranishankail in Rangpur and swindling money. A computer, money, two smart phones and seven SIMs of different operators used in Facebook hacking were recovered from him at the time of arrest.
A case has been filed with Lalbagh Police Station under the Digital Security Act.
