Obaidul Quader said this at an online press conference from his official residence in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban area on Friday. The Awami League general secretary organized the press conference in response to the BNP leaders' remarks criticizing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's speech to the nation.
He said the speech of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was timely and directional. In the last one decade, the country has witnessed unimaginable development and progress in socio-economic and other sectors and visible progress in the quality of life of the people. The Prime Minister's speech gave a brief picture of that progress. The outline of building a prosperous Bangladesh in the continuity of development has also come up in it.
The bridge minister said the per capita income of the people of the country in 2008 was only ২ 625. And now the per capita income stands at 2,084 US dollars. The poverty rate has now dropped from 41.5 to 20 percent and the extreme poverty rate has dropped from 22 percent to 11 percent.
He said the power generation in the country during the BNP rule was only 3,300 MW. After coming to the Awami League government, the capacity of daily power generation now stands at 24,421 MW. Of this, about 19,000 MW of electricity is being added to the national grid.
The Awami League general secretary said, "After being repeatedly rejected by the people, the BNP is engaged in a conspiracy to mislead the people through lies and deprive them of the benefits of government development." Under the misrule of BNP-Jamaat, all sectors of the government were immersed in rampant corruption. They smeared corruption on the forehead of the country 5 times in a row. The people of the country no longer want to go back to the death valley of the BNP misrule.
He said the BNP is also lying about the corona vaccine. They have spread propaganda about this before. The statement made by the Prime Minister about Corona is true. The government will prove it in practice.
