The militant group IS has claimed responsibility for a bus bombing in eastern Syria that killed at least 40 government soldiers. The militant group IS admitted this on Thursday, a day after the attack on the bus.
The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a convoy of government forces in the eastern province of Deir al-Zor. 37 soldiers were killed. They were going home on vacation.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said eight officers were among the dead. Another 12 soldiers were injured in the attack.
IS militants said in a statement that their fighters attacked a bus carrying government troops.
