The heroic freedom fighter, freedom-winning musician Ustad Kalipada Das is no more. He died at his residence in Baitipara in Khulna city on Thursday afternoon.
He was 89 years old at the time of his death. He had been suffering from various complications of old age for a long time.
At 3:30 pm at the city's Shaheed Hadith Park, after paying homage to artists, cultural activists and people of all walks of life, he was given a guard of honor by the state.
Administration officials including the leaders of Muktijoddha Sangsad were present at the time. The body of Kalipada Das was cremated at Rupsha crematorium at 5.30 pm after the guard of honor. The death of this eminent musician of Khulna has cast a shadow of mourning on the cultural scene.
It is learned that musician Ustad Kalipada Das was awarded the Independence Medal-2020. He is especially known to the people of Khulna as Ustad Kalipada Das. He is a song artist of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra.
After independence, he was the music instructor of the School of Music, Udichi, Kranti, Bhairabi and from 1972 to 1978 he was the general secretary of the Khulna District Music Artists' Association.
