The fire at the Konka Electronics factory in the old Tipurdi area of Sonargaon in Narayanganj came under control after four and a half hours of efforts by the fire service.
The fire came under control around 3:30 pm on Sunday. The fire broke out at the factory on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway at around 11am. Dumping is currently underway.
The fire brigade has 12 units and 80 personnel of Sonargaon, Bandar and Demra stations. Police, RAB, volunteers and locals assisted in this.
According to the workers, the fire broke out soon after joining the work in the morning. Engineer Atiq and another worker were injured at that time.
Abdullah Al Arefin, deputy director of the Fire Service and Civil Defense in Narayanganj, said, "After receiving the news, we quickly started work on the spot." The fire is under control. However, as the main gate was under construction, we had to gain speed to enter. So there is a problem in getting inside our car. It is not possible to immediately report the onset of the fire and the extent of the damage.
He added that the initial idea was to start the fire from the store room. The fire spread quickly due to the presence of plastic and petroleum substances. The fire is thought to have been triggered by an electrical short circuit.
Sonargaon police OC said. Rafiqul Islam said the fire was under control and dumping was going on. Police and locals also assisted fire service personnel.
Debashish Barman, deputy director of the fire service of the Dhaka division, said, "We have started work to control the fire after receiving the news." After a long 4 and a half hours of effort, the fire came under control. An inquiry committee has been formed into the incident. The damage could not be ascertained.
