BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, "The present government wants to wipe out the opposition by holding exclusive power so that no one dares to raise their head against the misrule of the Awami League." And this is why the ruling party has become desperate to win its candidate by showing muscle power in the local elections as well.
In a statement on Monday, he said, "The level of attacks by law enforcement and government cadres on the peaceful mass communication of opposition leaders and activists, including the BNP, centered on the ongoing municipal elections across the country after the 11th parliamentary elections, has now become more reckless." The seizure of power and greed for power has taken the Awami government to the brink of violence.
He strongly condemned the Awami League and the police for attacking the upcoming Feni, Chauddagram and Baruda municipal elections and called for immediate restoration of a fair electoral environment.
The BNP secretary general said, "The terrorist activities carried out by the ruling party terrorists and the police force prove that the government will not defeat its own candidate in the municipal elections in any way." Corruption and misrule on the one hand and law and order forces and party terrorists on the other hand have been used to attack, kill and injure opposition leaders and establish a reign of terror across the country. However, the government will not be able to perpetuate its illegitimate power by carrying out terrorist acts.
