In Habiganj, a 15-day-old child was sold for Tk 6,000. A man sells children to provide blood for his wife. The incident took place at Habiganj Sadar Modern Hospital on Saturday evening.

The incident quickly gave rise to widespread discussion. Eventually, with the intervention of the police, the sold newborn was returned to the parents' lap.

According to hospital sources, Aklima Begum, wife of Rahim Uddin of Mandri village in Baniachang upazila, was admitted to Habiganj Sadar Modern Hospital on January 8 with bleeding problem. The doctors then said that he needed 5 bags of blood.

Rahim Uddin could not arrange blood for his wife due to lack of money. In this situation, he decided to sell his 15-day-old child. Ashkir Mia of Wakhal Chargaon village of Nabiganj upazila who brought the patient to the same ward can know the matter. He then bought the newborn for 7,000 rupees.

Rahim Uddin, the father of the child, said that his wife gave birth to the girl 15 days ago at her village home. He has two more sons and one daughter. Although there was excessive bleeding during delivery, he could not get treatment due to lack of money. When his wife's condition deteriorated, he was brought to Habiganj Sadar Modern Hospital. But due to lack of money he could not arrange blood for his wife. So he decided to sell the child to save his wife.

Aklima Begum, the mother of the newborn, said, 'I could not manage the money even after visiting my parents, siblings and relatives. That's why I was forced to sell the child. “They took our signature on a white paper when we bought the children,” he said.

My brother got married 18 years ago," said Shamsunnahar Begum, sister of Ashki Miah, who bought the child. But they did not have children. When my brother and I came to the hospital with my daughter, I heard that a baby would be sold. Later my brother bought the baby.

Parveen Akhter, a senior staff nurse in the hospital's Gaini ward, said, "Aklima Begum was given two bags of blood from the hospital. But we did not know about the sale of children.

Police later took the baby from Achkir Mia and returned it to his parents. Habiganj Sadar Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Nazmul Haque said, "Those who bought the baby were asked to come to the hospital and they brought the baby." Later, around 10 pm, the child was returned to his parents' lap.
