A man has returned a house given to him by the government for the homeless in Jaintapur, Sylhet. He said that the upazila administration had allotted him the house even after informing him that he had a house. Thus, the upazila administration has given houses to many more.
I am not homeless or landless," said Bashir Uddin of Mathi village in Paschim Thakur, Ward 8, Chiknagul Union, Jaintapur. On Sunday, the local MP returned the house papers to the Minister for Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment, Imran Ahmed.
Bashir said Nazrul Islam, a member of the local Union Parishad (UP), collected photocopies of voter ID cards for urgent work. Later, the Union Parishad showed him landless and allotted him a house in Thakur's Mathi Mouza. On 22 January, the house administration handed over the house documents.
I was surprised to get the documents and prepared to return them," Bashir said. Even though I have a house, how does the upazila administration allocate a house?
In this regard, Jaintapur Upazila Parishad Chairman Kamal Ahmed said, "After learning about the irregularities, on the directive of the Minister, I went to investigate and cancel the houses of 23 people, but mysteriously the Upazila Administration and House Allocation Committee has allotted houses." In the presence of all, Bashir returned a house to the minister and proved the truth of the irregularities.
