A court has sentenced one person to death and another to life imprisonment and fined him Rs 100,000 for raping and killing a teenager in Nilphamari. On the other hand, the father-in-law has been sentenced to life imprisonment for raping his daughter-in-law.
Judges of Nilphamari Women and Child Abuse Suppression Tribunal-1 and 2 handed down the sentence on Thursday afternoon.
According to the details of the case, Mausumi (14), daughter of Abdul Gani of Satjan Saifun area of Dimla upazila of Nilphamari, went missing from her house on the night of August 29, 2013. The next morning, his body was found in Kashabane on the banks of the river Buritista near his house. On the same day, Mousumi's father Abdul Gani filed a case against some unidentified persons at Dimla police station. After investigating the case, on August 21, 2014, the police filed a chargesheet in the court in 6 names including Maqbool Hossain (40), son of neighbor Yasin Ali, alleging rape and murder. And after a long hearing of the case this afternoon, the judge of the Women and Child Abuse Suppression Tribunal-2, District and Sessions Judge Md. Mahabubur Rahman sentenced Maqbool Hossain to death and another accused Halimur Rahman (28) to life imprisonment. At the same time, the other four accused in the case were acquitted.
Al Masud Alal, Special PP Advocate of Women and Child Abuse Suppression Tribunal-2, said that Abdul Ghani's daughter Mausumi went missing on the night of August 29, 2013. The next morning the girl's body was found on the banks of the river Buritista.
Mahmudur Rahman, a wise judge of the tribunal, sentenced Maqbool to death and Halimur to life imprisonment among the four accused in the case.
According to the details of the other case, on September 9, 2005, his daughter-in-law Razia Sultana was found alone at home and raped by her father-in-law Azgar Ali. Razia's daughter-in-law filed a case against her father-in-law Azgar Ali at Syedpur police station on October 13. After a long hearing of the case, Nilphamari Women and Child Abuse Suppression Tribunal-1 Judge District and Sessions Judge. Ahsan Tareq sentenced the accused father-in-law Azgar Ali to life imprisonment and another six months imprisonment for non-payment of a fine of Tk 20,000.
Meanwhile, Ramendra Bardhan Bappi, Special PP Advocate of Women and Child Abuse Suppression Tribunal-1, said that Razia Sultana, wife of son Mokshedul Islam, filed a case against her father-in-law Azgar Ali on October 13, 2005 for rape.
Ahsan Tareq, a wise judge of the tribunal, sentenced his father-in-law to life imprisonment after giving evidence in the case. He said the convict has been absconding since bail.
