An exchange meeting has been held at the initiative of Nilphamari Upazila Parishad Association to demand proper fulfillment of the responsibilities entrusted to the chairmen to make the Upazila Parishad effective. The conference was held in the conference room of the Diabetic Hospital in the district town on Sunday afternoon.
Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Shahid Mahmud presented a written statement. Domar Upazila Parishad Chairman Tofail Ahmed, Jaldhaka Upazila Parishad Chairman Abdul Wahed Bahadur and Kishoreganj Upazila Parishad Chairman Shah Abul Kalam Bari Pilot spoke on the occasion.
Abdul Wahed Sarkar Bahadur said, "The chairman of the Upazila Parishad is supposed to be the chairman in the committees or in various coordination meetings but we see that the Upazila Nirbahi Officer is presiding there instead." Basically, it is supposed to run the council of chairmen and perform the UNO secretariat duties. We want to do our job properly because we have been elected by the people here.
Domar, Dimla, Jaldhaka, Kishoreganj Upazila Parishad vice chairmen and women vice chairmen were present at the meeting.
