More than 500 houses have been burnt down in a fire at a registered Rohingya refugee camp in Nayapara of Teknaf Upazila. However, no casualties were reported in the incident.
The fire broke out at the Nayapara registered refugee camp in Hnila union of Teknaf upazila on Thursday morning, said Additional Relief and Refugee Repatriation Commissioner Md. Samchu-dauja eyes.
However, the commissioner for additional relief and refugee repatriation could not say the cause of the fire. Samchu-Dauja said a fire broke out at the Nayapara registered Rohingya refugee camp in Teknaf at 3am on Thursday. After receiving the news, the personnel of Teknaf Fire Service Station reached the spot. After trying for about two hours, the fire service personnel were able to bring the fire under control at 5 am. Meanwhile, at least 500 Rohingya homes in the camp were completely burnt down.
The commissioner for additional relief and refugee repatriation said the cause of the fire was not known. Work is underway at the concerned level to know the extent of damage and the cause of the fire.
