An Iraqi court has issued an arrest warrant against US President Donald Trump. The warrant was issued in January last year in connection with the killing of Iraqi militia leader Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis in a drone strike.
On January 3 last year, Muhandis, the deputy head of the Hashad al-Shabi group, was killed in a US drone strike outside Baghdad airport. The same attack killed General Qasim Soleimani, the head of Iran's revolutionary forces.
The attack was ordered by Donald Trump. In the aftermath of the assassination, Trump said the "two-man deal" was over.
Earlier, in June last year, Iran issued an arrest warrant against Trump. The International Police Organization (Interpol) was also asked to issue a red notice against Trump.
Citing the judiciary, France24 reported that an arrest warrant had been issued against Trump under Article 406 of the Iraqi Penal Code. This section provides for the death penalty for premeditated murder.
