An aircraft named Sribijaya lost control after taking off from the Indonesian capital Jakarta. The plane was carrying at least 56 people, including six crew members, seven children and passengers.

The plane lost control while traveling from West Kalimantan Province to Pontiona on the island of Borneo.

Adita Irabati, a spokeswoman for the country's transport ministry, confirmed the information.

Srivijaya Airlines authorities said in a statement that they were trying to gather more information on the matter. Rescue agencies have formed a search committee.
