In Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj, the 11,000 volt power line of DESCO fell on the 11,000 volt line of Narayanganj Pobis-2. The fire destroyed the house below and killed four people on the spot.
The accident took place at around 9:15 pm in Kumartek village, Sector 11, Purbachal of Rupganj Sadar Union.
Uddipan Bhakta, station officer of Purbachal Multipurpose Fire Service, said that DESCO tore the 11,000-volt power line of Narayanganj Palli Bidyut in Kumartech area near Purbachal Multipurpose Fire Station around 9:15 pm. The house of Mashum Mia, who lives under that line, caught fire at that moment. Mashum and his two disabled children were killed on the spot.
He said three units of Purbachal Fire Service were able to extinguish the fire within 20 minutes after receiving the news. Fire service members rescued Mashum's wife Seema from the house in a severely burnt condition. He was later taken to the Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.
